Corey Ledet was born and raised in Houston, Texas, but spent his summers in Parks, Louisiana, immersing himself in Creole culture. His love for Creole/Zydeco music began early, and he started playing drums for the Houston-based band Wilbert Thibodeaux and the Zydeco Rascals at age 10. He later transitioned to the accordion, mastering various types, including single-note, triple-note, and piano key accordions.
