Biography

Orlandivo Honorio de Souza, known professionally as Orlandivo and Orlann Divo, was born on August 5, 1937, in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil. He began his musical career as a crooner for organist Ed Lincoln's band, which marked the start of his involvement in Brazilian jazz and bossa nova. Over the years, Orlandivo became recognized as one of the fathers of the 'Sambalanço' style, a genre derived from bossa nova. He co-wrote many songs with guitarist Durval Ferreira and achieved international success with hits like 'Samba Blim' (also known as 'Tamanco No Sambo'), co-written with Helton Menezes. His most famous album, released in 1977, featured arrangements by João Donato and contributions from notable musicians such as Alex Malheiros and Mamão of Azymuth. Orlandivo passed away on February 8, 2017, in Rio de Janeiro, leaving behind a legacy in Brazilian music. His style blended elements of samba, jazz, and bossa nova, contributing significantly to the evolution of these genres. Orlandivo's music was celebrated for its vibrant rhythms and melodic depth, making him a beloved figure in Brazilian music history.
