Linda Bell Viera Caballero, known professionally as La India, was born on March 9, 1969, in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, and raised in the South Bronx, New York City. Her grandmother gave her the nickname 'La India' due to her brown skin and long black hair, a moniker that would later become synonymous with her musical legacy.
