Biography
Justin Hinds was born on May 7, 1942, in Steer Town, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, the youngest of three children to Alphonso Hinds, a folk healer and Revival preacher, and Edith McBean. Growing up in a rural environment influenced by Revival churches, he developed a unique vocal style blending folk proverbs, gospel overtones, and country roots. In the late 1950s, while working in Ocho Rios, he formed a harmony trio called the Dominoes with co-workers Dennis Sinclair and Egerton 'Junior' Dixon, naming it after his idol Fats Domino. Hinds began singing in bars and on beaches, later moving to Kingston where he embraced Rastafari influences.
