Ekiti Sound

Biography

Ekiti Sound is the musical project of Leke Awoyinka, also known as CHiF, a Nigerian-British electronic music producer and vocalist who spearheads a new wave of electronic music originating from Nigeria by way of London. Raised between Lagos and London, Awoyinka has spent years traveling between his two cities, continually seeking ways to explore and push the musical envelope. Before fully committing to Ekiti Sound, he honed his skills working with various artists and productions on both continents, and spent time as a sound designer in the Nollywood film industry.

Ekiti Sound's musical identity is defined by an innovative fusion of electronic production with traditional Nigerian sounds, African rhythms, and indigenous instruments like the talking drum and shekere. His work combines modernist electronic beats with the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria, creating what has been described as an eclectic project that speaks to contemporary music audiences, Afropunkers, and the global diaspora. His debut album "Abeg No Vex" showcased an ultra-modern take on Nigerian traditions, while his 2023 album "Drum Money" further demonstrated his distinctive approach to electronic music, pushing boundaries and venturing into uncharted sonic territories. Through his music, Ekiti Sound creates a sonic dialogue between London and Lagos, immersing listeners in Nigeria's rich and varied musical culture while celebrating the dynamic and evolving world of Nigerian music.
