Biography
The Fabulous Thunderbirds formed in 1974 in Austin, Texas, when harmonica player and vocalist Kim Wilson, originally from California but drawn to the blues scene after stints in Minneapolis, teamed up with guitarist Jimmie Vaughan, bassist Keith Ferguson, and drummer Mike Buck. They quickly became the house band at Antone's, the iconic Austin blues club opened by Clifford Antone in 1975, where they honed their high-energy blues-rock sound blending Texas blues, Chicago blues, swamp blues, and later rock 'n' roll, soul, and Cajun influences. Early releases like their self-titled debut on Takoma Records in 1979 established them as cult favorites, backed by national acts such as Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, and Sunnyland Slim.[1][2][3][4]
