Biography
Strange Roux is a high-energy rock n' roll band hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, rooted in the sounds of the Louisiana swamp with a thick, heavy vibe steeped in sweet melody and hard-hitting rhythm. The band blends influences both old and new, drawing from a spice rack of musical inspiration dating from the 1930s to today, creating a swamp rock stew that mixes classic Southern rock with modern rock elements. Their debut EP, Boogieman, released on Total Riot Records, received rave reviews from local publications including Offbeat Magazine, Where Y'at Magazine, and Antigravity, propelling them onto the New Orleans scene.
Formed by members Kennedy Kuntz (vocals), Jason Kareores (guitar/slide), Cody Lee (guitar), Matt Schmitt (bass), and Ana De Ferreira (drums), the band has grown tight over years, melding histories of love, heartbreak, and Louisiana living into an authentic recipe. They have performed successfully at iconic New Orleans venues like Tipitina’s, Howlin’ Wolf, Blue Nile, d.b.a, and One Eyed Jacks, as well as festivals across the southeast, sharing stages with acts such as The Revivalists, Lost Bayou Ramblers, Naughty Professor, Honey Island Swamp Band, Dax Riggs, Luke Winslow King, Papa Mali, and Johnny Sketch and The Dirty Notes. In 2023, they released new singles produced by Andre Bohren, followed by work on a new EP with Bohren and Jack Miehle slated for early 2026 release.
Today, Strange Roux maintains a bi-weekly residency at Blue Nile on Frenchmen Street, continues recording new material and videos, and expands their live experience to growing audiences while building on their local and regional success.
