Biography
Scott Cooke McCreery, born on October 9, 1993, in Garner, North Carolina, to parents Judy and Michael McCreery, discovered his passion for music early, influenced by Elvis Presley and later icons like Garth Brooks, George Strait, Randy Travis, Ronnie Milsap, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty, Josh Turner, and Charlie Wilson. He began playing guitar at age 10, sang in his high school choir Die Meistersingers at Garner Magnet High School, and won the local 'Clayton Idol' contest at 16, performing charity shows with WQDR-FM while working as a bagger at Lowes Foods.[1][2][3]
McCreery rose to national fame as the winner of American Idol Season 10 in 2011, leveraging his deep, resonant voice and traditional country style. Signing with Mercury Nashville, he made history as the first country artist and youngest male of any genre to debut his debut album Clear as Day at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, certified Platinum with hits like 'I Love You This Big' and 'The Trouble with Girls.' Subsequent releases included the gold-certified Christmas with Scotty McCreery (2012), See You Tonight (2013) with Top 10 single 'Feelin’ It,' and Seasons Change (2018), praised by Rolling Stone, featuring co-written tracks and No. 1 hits like 'Five More Minutes'—inspired by his grandfather's passing—and 'This Is It.' After parting with Mercury in 2016, he released his memoir Go Big or Go Home and continued with five consecutive No. 1 hits.[1][2][3][4][5]
Known for themes of love, life, and family, McCreery's style blends classic country with radio-friendly appeal. He has earned ACM, BMI, CMT, NSAI awards, platinum/gold certifications, North Carolina's Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and 2024 Grand Ole Opry induction. Married to Gabi, they welcomed son Merrick Avery in 2022; he executive-produced Hallmark films based on 'Five More Minutes.'[1][2][4][6]
