Miss Sophie Lee

Biography

Miss Sophie Lee, born Sophie Lee Lowry in the suburbs of Chicago to a Korean mother and a Black father with roots in Louisiana and Mississippi, grew up immersed in music, studying classical piano, violin, and later guitar at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. In 2001, she moved to New Orleans seeking its vibrant musical and culinary culture, quickly establishing herself as a dynamic jazz vocalist known for her fresh interpretations of swinging tunes reminiscent of Billie Holiday and Madeleine Peyroux. Her style blends roots music with modern sophistication, earning praise as one of the premier singers of the Crescent City.[1][2][5]
