K.C. Jones

Biography

K.C. Jones, originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, was born into a deeply musical Appalachian family, with her father, Carl Jones, a highly respected roots musician and songwriter who immersed her in old-time music from birth—he even recalls spotting her asleep in a guitar case during his performances. Surrounded by her parents' musician friends and traveling to fiddlers' conventions and festivals as a child, she emerged as a teenager as one of the foremost singers, guitarists, and dancers in old-time music, encouraged by her father to write songs about anything as a form of expression.[1][4][6] In 2006, she moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, to study dance at the university and delve into Cajun music, quickly learning Cajun French and crafting original bilingual songs with progressive Cajun bands like GRAMMY-nominated Feufollet and T’Monde.[1][2][4]

Jones has become a prominent figure in Lafayette's vibrant music scene, a hub for young master musicians blending traditional Cajun, Creole, and Southern roots with forward-looking sounds, where she has lived for over 15 years. Her style effortlessly spans genres including Cajun, Americana, cosmic country, psychedelic rock, and 1960s girl groups, influenced by her record collection of late 60s/early 70s rock and singer-songwriters like Gene Clark's No Other, Janis Ian, T-Rex, Joni Mitchell, Waylon Jennings, the Byrds, and the Shangri-Las. She released her album Queen of the In Between in 2021, recorded at Joel Savoy's GRAMMY-winning studio in Eunice, LA, featuring Lafayette's top players and produced by Savoy, marking her as a key voice in modern, genre-bending roots music.[1][2][3][4]

Active in multiple projects, Jones continues to perform her originals alongside Cajun collaborations, emphasizing the personal outlet her solo work provides after years of band contributions. Her voice blends twang, rock 'n' roll edge, and dreamy 60s girl group elements, solidifying her role in Louisiana's progressive roots movement.[3][4][7]
