Biography
Hiromi Uehara, born on March 26, 1979, in Hamamatsu, Japan, began her musical journey at the age of six with piano lessons. She was introduced to jazz by her teacher Noriko Hikida and later enrolled in the Yamaha School of Music. Hiromi's early career included performances with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at 14 and a chance meeting with Chick Corea at 17, leading to a performance with him in Tokyo. In 1999, she moved to the United States to study at Berklee College of Music, where she was mentored by Ahmad Jamal. Her debut album, Another Mind, was released in 2003 to critical acclaim. Hiromi's musical style is characterized by her virtuosity and ability to merge genres, often blending jazz with other musical influences. She has collaborated with numerous artists, including Anthony Jackson and Simon Phillips in her Trio Project, releasing albums such as Voice and Spark. Hiromi's legacy includes a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album as part of the Stanley Clarke Band and performances at prestigious events like the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony.
