Biography
Dawn Richard is a visionary singer, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur from New Orleans who rose to prominence as a member of the platinum-selling girl group Danity Kane. At age 21, she auditioned for MTV's Making the Band 3 in 2004 and was selected by Sean "Diddy" Combs to join the group alongside Aubrey O'Day, Aundrea Fimbres, D. Woods, and Shannon Bex. Danity Kane became a massive commercial success, performing for 50,000-capacity stadiums worldwide and becoming the first all-female group in Billboard history to have their first two albums debut at the top of the charts. The group signed to Bad Boy Records and performed alongside major artists including the Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera, and the Black Eyed Peas.
Following Danity Kane's initial breakup in 2009, Richard transitioned into a solo career and became a member of the Diddy-Dirty Money collective alongside Sean Combs and Kalenna Harper. After a period as an independent artist spanning approximately 10 years, during which she released the acclaimed albums Goldenheart, Blackheart, and Redemption, Richard signed to Merge Records in 2021. Her solo work showcases a genre-defying blend of R&B, electronic, pop, and experimental sounds, marked by futuristic production, soulful vocals, and powerful storytelling. Richard's artistry extends beyond music into visual performance, dance, and collaborations across music, technology, and fashion, establishing her as a trailblazer who challenges industry norms and redefines contemporary pop and R&B.
