Biography
Dirty Deuce is a raw, primal rock duo consisting of guitarist/vocalist Rob Atwood and drummer Jamey Clark, based in Door County, Wisconsin. Atwood previously fronted the Milwaukee-based band The Probers from 1994 to 2003, a seven-piece group that toured extensively but dissolved amid internal conflicts, substance issues, overdoses, and label scams. Disillusioned, Atwood relocated to Door County in January, seeking a simpler life away from rock star ambitions, where he played acoustic sets in dire circumstances before Clark approached him to form the duo.
Their partnership began spontaneously when Clark, inspired by seeing Atwood with The Probers at Bayside Tavern in Fish Creek, insisted on playing drums with him despite Atwood's low point. As a duo, they embrace a minimalist, improvisational style—guitar, drums, and vocals with no effects, capturing the sound of playing in a living room. This contrasts sharply with soulless electronic music, delivering heavy grooves and gritty riffs that generate immense energy from just two members. They released the vinyl album Big Ol’ Sexy in 2012.
Dirty Deuce's musical style emphasizes intuition and primal rock 'n' roll, free from band egos. Though aiming for sustainable income rather than stardom, their career was impacted by the death of key supporter Billy Triplett in 2013, halting potential tours and larger exposure.
