Biography
Born Brittany Guerin in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Britti grew up immersed in a rich musical environment shaped by her family. Raised by her mother (whom she calls Brown Sugar) and grandmother (Cayenne Pepper), she was surrounded by classic soul, R&B, blues, zydeco, and more, while her uncle, jazz bassist Roland Guerin, took her to gigs with legends like Allen Toussaint and Dr. John. She sang in school chorus, church choir, and harmonized with the radio, later earning a degree in music performance from Loyola University in New Orleans, where she now proudly resides and draws deep inspiration from the city's traditions.[1][2][3][5]
For nearly a decade after college, Britti worked in a music store selling instruments to aspiring musicians, postponing her own dreams until a devastating breakup and pandemic furlough in 2020 sparked a breakthrough. During a two-month break, she began running, meditating, bought her dream Martin guitar, and wrote songs late into the night, praying for someone to recognize her potential. That person was Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, who saw a video of her singing acoustically and flew her to Nashville. Their collaboration resulted in her debut album Hello, I'm Britti, released February 2, 2024, via Easy Eye Sound, blending retro soul, Motown, zydeco, jazz standards, blues, and modern R&B into timeless, emotionally charged songs about heartbreak, self-discovery, love, and resilience.[1][2][3][4]
Britti's style reflects her New Orleans roots and family influences, creating a 'gumbo' of genres with her effervescent spirit, featherlight yet powerful vocals, and honest storytelling. Produced by Auerbach, the album features top musicians and stands as her introduction to the world, capturing her journey from a girl becoming a woman while aiming for music that endures like her favorite '60s and '70s eras.[2][3][6]
