bloody civilian

Biography

Emoseh Khamofu, known professionally as Bloody Civilian, was born in July 1999 in Taraba State, Nigeria, and raised across Kaduna, Jos, and Abuja in a conservative household that restricted her movements but nurtured her early musical talents. From age 8, she wrote songs for her parents and began producing beats using software like Audacity and FL Studio, performing original music and guitar at school talent shows. Her father, a former musical tourist in a band, encouraged her musical pursuits, while her stage name 'Bloody Civilian' draws from a derogatory military term for civilians amid northern Nigeria's violence, reflecting her art's roots in personal and regional experiences.[1][2][4]

Transitioning from producer to artist, Bloody Civilian debuted in 2022 with 'How To Kill A Man,' which she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the video for, as the lead single from her EP Anger Management. That year, she co-wrote and produced 'Wake Up' featuring Rema for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, marking her global breakthrough before her debut single's release. Signed to 0207 Def Jam, she released the remix EP Anger Management: At LEasT wE tRIED in November 2023 with singles like 'Mad Apology' featuring Odumodublvck and 'I Don’t Like You' with JELEEL! and Candy Bleakz; she also featured on Odumodublvck's chart-topping 'Blood on the Dance Floor' with Wale.[1][2][4][6]

Her genre-defying style blends alté, afrobeats, afropop, afro r&b, and psychedelia, influenced by West African heritage, Asa, Frank Ocean, Kid Cudi, and Tame Impala, emphasizing raw storytelling on empowerment, anger, and African narratives. Profiled as a radical emerging force by The Guardian Nigeria and NME, she topped TurnTable's NXT Emerging Artistes in 2023 and contributed to Bob Marley's One Love biopic EP in 2024, solidifying her rising legacy in Nigerian and global music.[1][2][4]
